The Turkoman, Balouch, and Goochan Rugs are three types of traditional Oriental rugs that are known for their distinct geometric shapes and dark red colors. They differ in both construction and materials. However, they are almost indiscernible from one another, for they look almost exactly the same.
Contrary to what its name might suggest, The Turkoman Rug refers to wool rugs, which are first made in Afghanistan. Antique Turkoman rugs are distinguishable for the dark red color of their background and the bright, contrasting colors of the patterns the Turkoman rug designs hold. The style began in Afghanistan, and it later moved to Turkey and Iran, where different variants of the rug were born.
The Balouch rug then is born as a combination of syncretism within the borders of Afghanistan, Iran, and Pakistan. These rugs share the same design characteristics; which means a dark red background with bright geometric shapes in front of it, but they have the particular of being principally made in cotton.
Finally, the Goochan Rugs come from ancient Persia, which is now Iran. It would be then taken as the Persian Turkoman rug. This rug is different in that it might as well include dark blues replacing the reddish background colors of the Turkoman rugs.
The Turkoman, Balouch, and Goochan rugs are known and often grouped for their very similar design qualities: a red or blue field with rows of geometric patterns that intersect in a cross pattern. If you are looking for Goochan, Balouch, or Turkoman rugs for sale, here at Magic Rugs we offer the most beautiful designs and the most enduring hand-knotted rugs in all three kinds of styles.
